Read first · TonightVisa, TDAC, arrival at midnight
Nine days before your flight, Thailand pulled the 60-day visa-free for Indians. This section is the only thing that matters in the next 12 hours.
The 17-day problem (and the fix)
VoA = 15 days max. Your trip is 17 days. So:
- Option A · Apply Thai e-Visa NOW → thaievisa.go.th. Single-entry tourist (TR), 60 days, ~₹2,400. Cleanest fix if you have 24–48 hours.
- Option B · Land on VoA, extend on Day 4 at Immigration Suan Phlu (Soi Suan Phlu, Sathorn) or Chaeng Wattana. +30 days for ฿1,900 + 1 photo + passport + TM6 stamp + hotel printout. Half-day exercise.
- Option C · Border run on Day 14 to Vientiane/Phnom Penh and re-enter. Wasteful — kills a day.
Go with A.
TDAC — file within 72h of departure (so today / tomorrow)
- Paper TM6 is dead since 1 May 2025. Everyone files TDAC online.
- Free. 10 minutes. tdac.immigration.go.th
- Print the QR confirmation. Airline staff in India will check it before letting you board.
What to carry through Indian-airport immigration
- Passport (6+ months validity)
- TDAC QR printout
- e-Visa printout (if Option A) OR: 1 passport photo + return ticket printout + hotel printout + ฿2,000 + ฿10,000 proof-of-funds (if Option B/VoA)
- USD cash for THB conversion at Super Rich (declare if > USD 20,000)
Suvarnabhumi → city at midnight
Public taxi (best for your arrival time)
Level 1, outside Gate 4 or 7. 24/7 staffed queue. Take the printed ticket, hand to next taxi.
Fare = meter + ฿50 airport surcharge + ฿25–75 ×2 expressway tolls (you pay cash).
- Sukhumvit (Asoke/Phrom Phong): ฿350–450
- Silom/Sathorn: ฿400–500
- Khao San / Banglamphu: ฿450–550
- Pratunam: ฿380–450
If a driver refuses meter and quotes flat ฿800–1,500 — walk away. Take the next car.
Bolt / Grab at midnight
Pickup: Passenger Terminal Level 1, Gate 4 (designated 24/7 zone).
Bolt is 15–35% cheaper than Grab. Bolt to Asoke ≈ ฿320; Grab ≈ ฿420.
Driver availability between 01:00–04:00 is patchy. Open both apps; whichever quotes faster pickup, take. Default to the public taxi stand if both estimate >10 min.
Airport Rail Link — likely missed
Last train 00:00 from BKK B1 → Phaya Thai, ฿45, 26 min. If you clear immigration by 23:30 and sprint, possible. Otherwise gone until 05:10 next morning.
SIM the moment you land
- Airalo eSIM (best, install BEFORE flying): "Yeha Thailand", US $6.90 / 5GB / 30d, or unlimited $31 / 10d. Network: AIS+True. Activate at the gate.
- AIS Traveller SIM at airport kiosk (open 24/7, Gates 5–7): ~฿599 / 15-day unlimited 5G. Bring passport.
- True/dtac: ~฿1,199 / 30-day unlimited.
Enable WiFi Calling on your Indian SIM before flying. Then you take Indian incoming on Thai hotel WiFi at Indian rates. Do NOT activate international roaming.
Apps to install BEFORE you board
Grab · Bolt · InDriver · LINE (Thais don't use WhatsApp) · LongdoMap (better than Google for Thai addresses) · Google Translate (download Thai offline pack) · foodpanda · LineMAN · 12Go · Klook · XE Currency. Bookmark tdac.immigration.go.th.
First 24 hours playbook
- Tonight 22:30: Clear immigration, switch on Airalo, taxi to hotel.
- Tomorrow 09:00: Sleep till you wake. Buy AIS SIM if you skipped eSIM. First proper meal: nearest pad krapow stall.

The 3 asymmetric playsWhere your stack actually monetises in 17 days
Everything else (TFEX seat on a tourist visa, prop firm desk, hedge-fund intro) is structurally blocked. These three are open, sized for your skill set, and most have a foundation you can lay this trip.
Play #1 · PDPA-in-a-box for Thai SMEs ▲ deploy in 17 days
Thai PDPA enforcement just woke up. PDPC issued 8 fines totalling ฿21.5M in Aug 2025 — the first major wave. Single biggest fine: ฿7M on a small computer retailer for no-DPO + no breach notification. 2,672 complaints filed as of Jan 2026. 2026 priority sectors: e-commerce, healthcare, telecom, public services.
The product: consent banner + consent record + DSR (data-subject-request) portal + DPO outsource retainer + breach-response playbook. Use Tilleke's published framework as authority anchor.
Pricing: ฿30,000–80,000 setup + ฿5,000–15,000/mo retainer × 30–50 SMEs in year 1 = $70k–150k ARR achievable. Indian back-office delivers, Thai SME pays Thai price.
Sales motion: Glowfish Sathorn networking + SME Bank Tower workshops + cold-walk a few law firms (you sell, they refer).
Play #2 · Thai BOI digital-tech entity + structural token-launch pathway foundation in 17 days, value over years
This route is categorically impossible from India. Thailand has the most mature ICO Portal regime in SE Asia. Foreign founders structure via a BOI-promoted Thai entity — up to 100% foreign ownership, up to 13 years CIT holiday, FastPass digital track 2026.
Budget:
- BOI company set-up: $5,000–12,000 (Emerhub / Tilleke / Baker McKenzie / DFDL)
- ICO Portal listing + structuring legal: $50,000–150,000 (Tilleke or Baker McKenzie)
- Ongoing compliance: low five-figures annually
What to do this trip: Get a written quote from one of Tilleke, Baker McKenzie BKK, DFDL Thailand, Nishimura & Asahi. Start the BOI company paperwork — realistic to finish in 17 days. Token-issuance cycle is 6–12 months separately, but lay the rails now.
Compound moat: If you become a Thai tax resident (180+ days in a calendar year) before 31 Dec 2029, you get 0% capital gains on digital-asset trading via SEC-licensed Thai venues — codified under Ministerial Regulation No. 399 (B.E. 2568).
Play #3 · Typhoon Thai LLM + LINE chatbot productised vertical close customers in 17 days
SCB 10X's Typhoon 2 / T1 reasoning model is open-source on Hugging Face. Outperforms GPT/Claude on Thai-specific reasoning. Free to deploy. SCB 10X actively invites third-party builders.
The vertical pick: Pick ONE of
- Phahurat textile traders → Thai/Hindi/English AI listing generator for global e-commerce (Etsy/Amazon). Direct Indian-trust play. Cold-walk Pahurat Rd. ฿30k–80k per shop. Realistic to close 2–3 in 17 days.
- Pratunam wholesalers → LINE chatbot for foreign-buyer enquiries in 5 languages. ฿50k–150k build + ฿5k–15k/mo SaaS.
- Mid-tier Bangkok law firms (~200+ of them) → Thai-language contract-analysis tool. Thanoy is the incumbent but priced for top-tier; the middle is wide open. ฿100k–500k per firm.
- Medical-tourism hospitals (Bumrungrad / Bangkok Hospital / Samitivej) → vertical-narrower pitch: Indian-patient acquisition funnel using LLM + WhatsApp + UPI invoicing. Bumrungrad already does Indian patient pipelines. Long cycle but foot-in-door in 17 days is realistic.
200% deduction multiplier: If your Thai entity is DEPA-registered, your clients can deduct 2× the SaaS spend in CIT. Instant sales-multiplier vs non-registered competitors. Register via depa.or.th.
Capital-light import-export plays (covered in detail in Trade tab)
- Cut sapphire/ruby/spinel from Chanthaburi → Indian jewellers. 0.5% effective India BCD. 2–3x markup standard; 5–10x to end consumer. Personal hand-carry under jewellery allowance is cleanest start.
- Cosmetics OEM private-label for Amazon India via Lyalin / Quality Plus / ARNIFO / Kovic / Pronova. MOQ 500–1000 units. Unit cost ₹40–150. Retail ₹399–999. Needs CDSCO registration (6 months, $250/brand/category).
- Agent-commission model for Thai latex pillows/mattresses (PATEX, Theptex, Talatex) → Indian D2C sleep/wellness brands. Zero capital, 5–8% on FOB.
What's NOT a play in 17 days (don't waste time)
- TFEX brokerage seat on tourist visa — Thai brokerages require work permit (Non-B / LTR / retirement). LTR application is the only viable route, takes ~60 days.
- Crypto OTC arb INR↔THB — RBI hostile to crypto remittances under LRS. Thai THB-USDT spread is mid-tight (close to zero). The real edge is structural Thai tax residency, not the trade.
- Bangkok prop-firm seat — Jane Street / Optiver / IMC / Citadel / HRT have NO Bangkok offices. Singapore/HK/Tokyo only.
- Thai bank account on tourist visa — Bangkok Bank closed this Jan 2026. Krungsri inconsistent. LTR visa is the unlock.
Thailand crypto stackThe 0% cap-gains regime, exchanges, OTC desks
Thailand is the cleanest crypto jurisdiction in Asia 2026. India is the messiest. The arbitrage isn't the trade — it's the structure.
The headline · 0% crypto cap-gains 2025–2029
Ministerial Regulation No. 399 (B.E. 2568), gazetted 5 Sep 2025. Covers gains from selling/transferring digital assets via SEC-licensed Thai exchanges/brokers/dealers only. Off-license / DEX / foreign P2P NOT covered. For Thai tax residents (180+ days in calendar year) only.
USDT + USDC officially approved 16 Mar 2025 — stablecoin pairs mainstream on every licensed venue.
Licensed Thai exchanges (2026) — foreigner KYC reality
| Exchange | Foreign tourist KYC | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bitazza | EASIEST — passport + 1 secondary doc, KYC 1–3 days, no Thai bank to register | Genuinely the only one a 17-day visitor can complete clean. THB withdrawal still needs Thai bank. |
| Bitkub | Foreign KYC restored. Passport (6mo+) + 1 extra (NFC) or 2 extras (non-NFC) | Largest (~75% Thai market, $67M/day vol). Office: 219/59 Asoke Towers, 15F, Soi Sukhumvit 21, Watthana 10110. +66 99 196 1100. |
| Binance TH (Gulf Binance) | "KYC Foreigner" live since 14 Aug 2024 | Needs passport + permission to stay (entry stamp works for tourist). |
| InnovestX | Needs SCB FCD account to skip ฿1,200 deposit FX fee | SCBX multi-asset super-app, 0.2% fee, ~1M users, integrates equities + crypto. |

| KuCoin TH | New, fully Thai-licensed | Supports G-Token (first government bond on chain). Watch only. |

USDT–THB vs USDT–INR corridor reality
- USDT/INR on Binance P2P India prints 1–3% premium over USDT/USD mid (sellers price in UPI risk + regulatory grey).
- USDT/THB on Bitkub / Binance TH P2P prints close to mid (THB is freely convertible).
- The spread lives on the INR leg, not the THB leg.
- Direction matters: INR→THB via USDT is a tax+LRS minefield (RBI position: crypto remittances under LRS = not permitted; most authorised dealers refuse). THB→INR via USDT easier mechanically but FIU-IND tracks (1% TDS, 30% gains tax).
What you can legally execute in 17 days:
- Carry USD cash ≤ $19,999 (under $20k declaration) OR forex card (Thomas Cook / BookMyForex / HDFC ForexPlus)
- Convert to THB at Super Rich orange (Pratunam/Sukhumvit — 0.1–0.3% spread to mid)
- Open Bitazza on landing → fund via Thai-bank-owning counterparty on P2P, OR Binance TH P2P
- Buy USDT → trade on licensed venue
- Bring proceeds out as USD on forex card OR wire via SBI Bangkok / IOB Bangkok (fiat rails only, never crypto)
The real edge is NOT the THB spread — it's the Thai 0% capital-gains regime once you cross 180 days residency. Multi-year play, not a 17-day trade.

The structural / legal stack
| Need | Who | Why |
|---|---|---|
| BOI digital company set-up | Tilleke & Gibbins · Baker McKenzie BKK · DFDL Thailand · Nishimura & Asahi · Emerhub | 100% foreign ownership, up to 13y CIT holiday, ICO-Portal optionality |
| ICO Portal listing | TDX (SET-backed, the official one) | The only legal route to issue tokens from Thailand |
| Token legal structuring | Tilleke (advised LINE, Meta, LVMH on PDPA) · Baker McKenzie (published 2025 Digital Asset Law guide) | $50k–150k typical fee range |
| Crypto-friendly Thai bank | KBank (owns Orbix + Orbix Custodian) · SCB (runs InnovestX + SCB 10X) · Gulf Energy (half of Binance TH) | Bangkok Bank now hostile to tourist visa as of Jan 2026 |
TFEX, SET50 options, the LTR unlockStocks & derivatives — Bangkok angle
Honest read: TFEX SET50 options are a fraction of NSE Nifty/BankNifty depth. The real play for an Indian options veteran is the LTR visa + teaching/content angle, not a brokerage seat.
TFEX 2026 contract reality
| Product | Liquidity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Single Stock Futures | 1,686,403 OI contracts (May 2026) | The most active TFEX vertical. Closest analogue to NSE F&O. |
| SET50 Index Futures | Active front month, fraction of Nifty depth | Margin 5–20% of contract value |
| SET50 Index Options | Thin book, wider spreads | Strike intervals tightened 25→10 pts in 2026 — admission of past illiquidity. Hard to scalp. |
| USD/THB Futures | Vol ~30,692 · OI ~382,373 | Useful for FX hedging |
| Gold Futures (THB-settled, 99.90%) | Vol ~15,176 · OI ~27,128 | Domestic retail-driven |
Verdict: If you're fluent in BankNifty, TFEX SET50 will feel anaemic. Single Stock Futures is where actual volume lives.
Foreign trader access — the hard truth
Tourist visa = effectively locked out of full Thai brokerage. Standard requirement: Thai work permit (Non-B / LTR / retirement) to open at Maybank Securities Thailand, Bualuang Securities (Bangkok Bank arm), Phillip Securities Thailand, KGI Securities, Krungsri Securities, KSecurities (KBank).
Bualuang requires linked Bangkok Bank account — now refusing tourists.
The unlock · LTR (Long Term Resident) visa
10-year visa with bank/brokerage access built in. Three relevant tracks:
- Work-from-Thailand Professional — for remote employees of foreign companies, $80k+/yr income, OR $40k+ with master's/IP. No Thai work permit needed (works only for foreign employer).
- Highly Skilled Professional — 17% flat PIT on Thai-sourced income
- Wealthy Global Citizen — $80k income OR $1M assets + $500k in Thai bonds/real estate
Processing: ~60 days. Start application this trip → unlocked on next visit.
Portal: ltr.boi.go.th
Cross-border arb (Nifty / GIFT / SET50)
Honest answer: no clean arbitrage. Different economies, currency-hedge ratios kill carry for retail size, TFEX won't absorb meaningful Indian-quant size. USD/THB futures vs USD/INR NDF — basis is heavily managed by BoT. Not a sustained edge.
The asymmetric play — content + workshops
Thai retail F&O culture is much smaller than India's. "The Indian options guy" is a real positioning angle in a country where options education is undersupplied.
Stock2morrow
Biggest Thai retail-investor education brand. Courses, Stock Guide, StockRadars tools. 51–200 employees, Bangkok office. FB
Pitch: co-branded Thai-language options-trading workshop. ฿5k–10k/seat × 10–20 seats = ฿50k–200k gross per session.
FundTalk / Finnomena · Jet Sookdhis
Founding president of Thai FinTech Association. Runs contrarian-investor YouTube/podcast. Profile
Pitch: LinkedIn outreach before flying. Probably the single highest-ROI Thai person an Indian options trader could meet.
InvestED Thailand
Smaller but active retail-investor community. Worth a join.
SET Investor Centre (Stock Exchange of Thailand HQ)
Ratchadaphisek Rd · MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre. Free public investor seminars in Thai. Walk-in possible; Thai-language heavy.
Quant shops in Bangkok
Very thin. Bangkok is NOT a regional quant hub (Singapore / HK / Tokyo are). Jane Street, Optiver, IMC, Citadel, HRT — no Bangkok seats. Local players = securities-firm prop desks (KSecurities, Bualuang, InnovestX). Tridens did not surface in 2026 — likely defunct.
Strategic conclusion: your quant skill sells better as a SERVICE into Thai brokers / family offices (dashboards, signal systems, options scanners on TFEX feeds) than as a seat at any Bangkok prop firm.
Selling IT & AI into BangkokThe Thai SME wedge
Singapore enterprise AI adoption ~56% moving to scale. Thailand classified as "gradual practitioner". Thai SMEs don't buy from Singapore (too expensive), from US/EU (English-only, Thai-context-deaf). They need Thai-LLM-native solutions that 90% of foreign consultancies can't deliver. Indian operators can deliver via Thai-LLM APIs at Indian cost structure. This is your single biggest credible arbitrage right now.
Rate arbitrage (verified May 2026)
| Profile | Bangkok rate | Indian back-office rate | Spread |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mid web dev (3–5y) | $17–35/hr | $10–18/hr | 1.5–2.5× |
| Senior full-stack | $35–70/hr | $20–35/hr | 2× |
| .NET / enterprise | $40–85/hr | $25–40/hr | 2× |
| AI / Azure / cloud specialist | $50–110/hr | $30–55/hr | 2× |
Bottleneck = sales/account-management, not pricing. Thai SMEs buy locally because of language, trust, after-sales presence. Your physical Bangkok presence is the sales unlock.
Concrete demand pockets 2026
LINE-first integrations
53M+ Thai users, 95%+ smartphone penetration. Every Thai SME runs LINE Official Account. Underserved by non-Thai developers.
Stack: LINE chatbot + LINE Pay / PromptPay integration. OA Pro plan ฿500/mo; the build-out is where money is.
฿50k–150k build + ฿5k–15k/mo SaaS
Shopee / Lazada seller tooling
Shopee 66% Thai market share · Lazada 52%. PromptPay = 40% of transaction volume.
Sellers need: inventory sync, multi-channel listing, Thai-language ads automation.
PDPA compliance tooling — hottest single pocket
PDPC issued 8 fines totalling ฿21.5M in Aug 2025 (first major enforcement wave). 2,672 complaints filed as of Jan 2026.
Thai SMEs scrambling, can't afford Tilleke. Productised PDPA-in-a-box: consent banner + DPO outsource + breach-response + DSR portal.
฿30k–80k setup + ฿5k–15k/mo retainer
e-Tax Invoice / e-Receipt + DEPA registration
Voluntary now (not mandatory yet) but Thailand has a 200% corporate tax deduction for DEPA-registered digital services (effective Feb 2026).
A DEPA-registered software vendor effectively gets a 2× sales-multiplier vs non-registered — client deducts 2×. Getting DEPA-registered should be priority #1.
Thai LLM stack (state of play)
ThaiLLM national project launched 5 May 2026. Four sub-models:
- Typhoon (SCB 10X) — leader, currently Typhoon 2 / Typhoon T1 reasoning. Open-source on Hugging Face. ~GPT-3.5-level on Thai-language tasks. Free to deploy. SCB 10X invites third-party builders. Typhoon 2 launch
- OpenThaiGPT by AIEAT — community / academic
- Pathumma-ThaiLLM by NECTEC
- THaLLE by KBTG (KBank Tech Group)
GPT-5 / Claude 4.7 handle conversational Thai well; lose accuracy on legal / regulatory / medical Thai vocab. Typhoon outperforms there.
Existing players closing AI deals with Thai corporates
- iApp Technology — Thai sovereign AI vendor. Built Thanoy (Thai legal AI assistant, 10,000+ legal articles, 7-second case retrieval). Thanoy
- VISAI — built Sommai / สี่มุมเมือง legal-search AI (uses Typhoon underneath, backed by DEPA)
- SCB 10X — both LLM owner + active enterprise-AI integrator
- Salesforce — Bumrungrad International Hospital deal April 2026 (Agentforce in contact center, FAQ chatbots, multilingual)
- Bird — AI translation for Bumrungrad international patient comms

- Thai law-firm AI workflow tooling — Thanoy is incumbent at top-tier; mid-tier firms (~200+) need a cheaper Claude/GPT-based contract analyser
Indian IT firms with Bangkok offices (soft-landing)

- Indian Overseas Bank Bangkok · 221 Rajawongse Rd, Samphanthawongse (SWIFT BHOBTHBK). Plus a Sukhumvit branch. Useful for fiat plumbing.

Markets · OEM · Gems · Freight · AIFTAImport-export — the tactical playbook
Capital-light models only. Drop-ship, agent, commission, OEM. The single highest-leverage asset on the ground: the Phahurat Sikh wholesalers — they speak your language and already ship to India.
Wholesale markets — tactical intel
Pratunam + Platinum Fashion Mall
Petchburi × Rajprarop Rd, Ratchathewi · BTS Chit Lom + 10 min walk OR ARL Ratchaprarop
Wholesale morning: 05:00–09:00 · Platinum Mall: 09:00–20:00 (Fri–Sun till 21:00)
Best floors: G–2F women's trendy (highest India-resale margin), 3–4F men's, 5F kids+bags
MOQ rule: 3 pieces = wholesale; bulk pricing jumps at 12+
Pay: Cash ฿ or PromptPay only. Bring ฿30–80k physically each morning.
Shipping consolidators: Cargo Plus Thailand (Pratunam, 12+ yrs) on G + 6F.
Bobae Tower + Bobae Market
488 Damrong Rak Rd, Pom Prap · No BTS, take Grab
Hours: 06:00–18:00 (no night market) · Tower 1 = kids/party/baby
Edge: 20–30% cheaper than Pratunam, quality slightly lower. Use for India tier-2/3 SKUs.
Insider hours: 06:00–08:00 fresh stock; serious wholesalers (Russians, Africans, Indians) 08:00–16:00.
Sampeng Lane (Soi Wanit 1, Chinatown)
Between Yaowarat & Chakraphet Rd · 08:00–17:00 busiest 09:00–13:00. Some shops Mon closed. Avoid Sat/Sun.
India arbitrage: Hair clips/scrunchies ฿5–10 → ₹50–80 on Meesho; beads/charms 3–5× Etsy; stationery/washi for Insta-resellers.
MOQ: 6 pairs shoes, 12 jewellery, some single-piece possible.
Chatuchak Weekend Market + JJ Mall
Kamphaeng Phet 2 Rd · MRT Kamphaeng Phet (best) / BTS Mo Chit
Wed–Thu 07:00–18:00 plants only · Fri 18:00–24:00 = WHOLESALE NIGHT (trader's secret day) · Sat–Sun 09:00–18:00 full
Best sections: 2–4 clothing · 7 ceramics/home (strong India resale) · 8 handicrafts · 25 jewellery-making · 26 art
Wholesale price for 10 pieces typically jumps to 40–50% off.
Phahurat — the strategic node
Chakraphet Rd, Phra Nakhon · walk from Pak Khlong Talat · India Emporium mall (4F fabric + ready-made)
Largest Sikh community in Bangkok (100+ years). Hindi, Punjabi, Sindhi spoken everywhere. Almost every wholesaler is Indian-origin.
Don't try to BUY fabric to ship (India cheaper). DO become a Phahurat fixer — Thai exporters → India, Indian goods → Thai stores. Spend 2 full days. Drink chai. Bring business cards. Get 3–5 Hindi-speaking ground contacts.
Eat: Royal India · Sikh Gurdwara langar (free, 2nd floor, breakfast/lunch). Sunday Diwan = densest Punjabi-businessman gathering in Bangkok.
Or Tor Kor Market (premium produce)
Kamphaeng Phet Rd, Chatuchak · opposite Chatuchak Weekend · MRT Kamphaeng Phet Exit 3 · 06:00–20:00 daily
CNN-ranked world's best fresh markets. Premium dried fruits, royal-grade jasmine rice, exotic spices, dried chilies. Cleanest market in Asia. Great for Amazon-India gourmet resale.
Silom Gem Row + Jewelry Trade Center
JTC: 919/1 Silom Rd · BTS Surasak · 59-storey tower · Mahesak Rd "Gemstone Street" between Silom & Suriwong
Loose colored stones (sapphire, ruby, spinel, tsavorite, tourmaline), cut/polished diamonds, finished jewellery, exporters with own labs.
The single best legal arbitrage: India BCD on cut/polished colored stones is 0.5% — almost free import. 2–3× standard markup with Indian jewellers; 5–10× to end consumer.
Process: Visit JTC G + 1F retail first to learn prices. Upstairs wholesalers need referral or card. Pay by bank wire or USD.
Yaowarat (Chinatown) — gold, herbs
Yaowarat Rd · MRT Wat Mangkon
Gold shops (Hua Seng Heng, MTS, Tang To Kang) — 0.5–1% above spot, globally cheap. But India 6% BCD makes import unattractive unless within personal jewellery allowance (20g men / 40g women, 1+ year abroad).
Talat Mai alley (Soi Yaowarat 6) — 200-year-old Chinese herb + dried seafood market (FSSAI hurdles — skip).
Buddhist amulets next door at Tha Phra Chan — Indian collector market for Phra Somdej, brass Phra Pidta. Bulk 18–20% off at 25–50 units.
Electronics — what's dead, what's alive
Pantip Plaza is largely dead — rebranded PHENIX Pratunam, mostly food/wholesale. Don't waste a day.
Fortune Town (Rama 9 Rd, MRT Phra Ram 9) — current king of IT (laptops, gaming gear, components, repair).
MBK Center 4F (BTS National Stadium) = phone wholesale capital. Hundreds of stalls, used iPhones, Android refurbs.
India reality: BIS/WPC/IMEI = painful for phone import. Stick to accessories (cables, cases, screen protectors, earphones, power banks) — clean customs.
Cosmetics OEM — Thailand's global advantage
| Factory | MOQ | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| S&J International | 10,000+ | Mistine, Beauty Buffet supplier — big private label |
| Lyalin | 500 | Smaller MOQ, good for D2C launches |
| Quality Plus | 500–1,000 | GMP / FDA · halal-certifiable |
| ARNIFO | 500–1,000 | Skincare + supplements |
| Kovic | 500–1,000 | Skincare specialist |
| Pronova Labs | 500–1,000 | Supplements specialist |
Capex first batch: ₹3–8 lakh + CDSCO registration ($250/brand/category, 6 months). Margin 50–70% net once CDSCO clears. Retail Amazon India ₹399–999 vs unit cost ₹40–150.
India customs / duty reality (2026)
Personal baggage (Baggage Rules 2026, effective 2 Feb): Duty-free ₹75,000 (up from ₹50,000). One laptop free for 18+. Above allowance: flat 10% BCD (cut from 20%). Gold 20g men / 40g women duty-free; above = 6%.

| Latex pillows/mattresses | 10–25% | 12–18% | ~25–45% |

| Dried fruits / processed food | 30–45% | 5–18% | ~40–60% (heavy) |
AIFTA Form AI — the duty-killer
Use Form AI (Certificate of Origin under ASEAN-India FTA) to claim 0% or massively reduced BCD on covered tariff lines. Issued by Thai DFT (Department of Foreign Trade) at supplier's end.
Many textile, machinery, agricultural lines duty-free under AIFTA. Always ask supplier: "Can you issue Form AI?" — yes → effective duty often falls to 5–10% total.
Also check Early Harvest Scheme (EHS) — 82 product lines at 0% — at commerce.gov.in.

Thai business etiquette · the 10 commandments for an Indian visitor
- The wai — palms together at chest, slight bow. As a foreigner you're not expected to initiate, but always return one, especially to anyone older/senior.
- Skip the North-Indian gripping handshake. Read as aggressive. Soft and brief.
- Business cards — present and receive with both hands. Read for 2–3 seconds. Lay received cards on the table in seat order. Never stash immediately.
- Get bilingual English / Thai cards printed in BKK — Sukhumvit Soi 4/6 print shops, same-day, ~฿500 / 100 cards.
- Feet — never point them at a person, altar, image of the king, or a Buddha. Tuck or plant flat. Crossed leg aiming sole at someone = cardinal breach.
- Head — never touch a Thai person's head.
- King + Royal family — avoid all commentary. Lèse-majesté is real and enforced.
- "Khun" + first name — gender-neutral Mr/Ms. Last names barely used.
- "Sawasdee krap" (entry) / "khop khun krap" (thanks) — even single words transform first impressions. Use them.
- Volume + speed — drop voice 30%, slow speech 20%, leave pauses. Bangkok meetings are slower than Mumbai. You'll be respected more.
What to bring
- Bilingual cards (above)
- A card case — never hand from a wallet
- Indian sweets / mithai box (small, sealed) — surprisingly effective gift if you're being walked into someone's office
- Power adapter — Thai sockets take Indian round-pin straight in. 220V.
- Cash for taxis + Grab/Bolt installed

For the horror readerPakinai · folk-canon · haunted Bangkok · publishing opportunity
You wrote "Phakinaki" — that's almost certainly Pakinai Kasirak (ภาคินัย กสิรักษ์), the most commercially successful living Thai horror novelist this century, until his death March 2023. There is a real publishing angle here.
† Pakinai Kasirak — the publishing opportunity
Born Sukhothai, raised Phetchaburi, educated Bangkok. Died 18 March 2023, age 41, in Bangkok, after heart surgery.
Signature work: the "7 Days" series (เจ็ดวัน) — people born on each day of the week can see spirits, each day with its own taboo (Sundays avoid pregnant women; Mondays avoid mirrors; Tuesdays avoid bathrooms; Wednesdays avoid funerals; Thursdays beware stairs; Fridays avoid water; Saturdays avoid shrines). 132,000+ Thai copies. Translated across Asia.
Other titles: Cracked (TV adaptation), Sop Krasip / The Whisperer (BL horror series 2023), Hmun Wela Tay / Time (2024 adaptation).
For you as a publisher: No official English novel exists. Sample chapters in English exist via Rights Online. The English-language rights to Pakinai's entire catalogue are essentially open — no Western publisher has acquired them. Thai publisher contact: Arckarabantueng / Akarapan (อักขราพันธุ์). Saneh Sangsuk (Deep Vellum) and Chart Korbjitti (Marcel Barang) are already taken; Pakinai and Win Lyovarin are the live opportunities.

Tip: Stick with orange. Same route as the blue tourist boat at 1/8 the price.
Khlong Saen Saep canal boat (east-west fast lane)
Fastest way across central BKK in traffic. Pratunam pier → Ramkhamhaeng / Wat Saket in 15–20 min vs 60 min by road. ฿16–26 (fare hike 24 Apr 2026). Pay conductor onboard. Hold rope barrier — canal water is filth. Avoid 06:30–09:00 and 17:00–19:00. Boarding is athletic — they don't fully stop.
Motorbike taxis (orange-vest "win")
Every soi entrance. Orange vests with license number. ฿20 start, up to ฿100 in-soi. Outside the soi → agree price first. GrabBike = app version, no haggling, slightly more.
Ride-hailing 2026
- Grab — most drivers, priciest
- Bolt — 15–35% cheaper, sometimes fewer drivers. Default to this
- InDriver — small market share, sometimes cheapest (you bid)
- Maxim — cheapest, smallest driver pool
Install all four. Default Bolt. Fall back to Grab when in a hurry.

Safety + scams
- "Temple closed today" — universal scam opener. Walk past.
- "Today is special government tax-free gem sale" — pure fiction. There IS no government gem programme. Anyone selling sapphires to tourists is robbing you.
- "My uncle is a tailor, just one stop" — driver gets commission, you get polyester at 10× the price.
- Tuk-tuk "all-day tour at ฿50" — they take you to 4 commission shops before any temple. Stick to Grab/Bolt. Use tuk-tuks only for short novelty rides, price agreed first.
- Soi 11 / Nana / Soi Cowboy / Patpong — safe to walk through (millions do). Never accept the "tuk-tuk to ping-pong show" pitch (bait-and-switch with ฿10,000+ "bar bill"). Never accept a drink from a stranger. Ground-floor Patpong bars have fixed prices, upstairs = scam.
- Counterfeit baht — rare but check large notes (฿1,000 has silver strip).
- Fake "Grand Palace guide" with lanyard — the official ticket office is INSIDE the palace grounds. Never buy a "skip the line" pass from someone outside.
Emergency numbers (save in phone NOW)
- Tourist Police: 1155 — English-speaking, 24/7, mediates with taxi drivers / bar owners on the spot
- Police general: 191
- Ambulance: 1669
- Indian Embassy: +66 2 258 0300 · 46 Soi Prasanmit (Sukhumvit Soi 23)
Health
- Tap water: NEVER drink. 7-Eleven 1.5L ฿14. Restaurant ice OK (filtered, central plants); roadside cart ice in 38°C heat = risky but most tolerate.
- Dengue is real and rising in 2026. High season May–October. Apply DEET-30% at dusk (Watson's/Boots ~฿200). Long sleeves riverside/canal-side. Fever >24h + bone pain + rash → Bumrungrad or Samitivej immediately.
- Food hygiene: Eat where there's a queue of locals. Avoid pre-cut fruit sitting in sun. Properly fired wok food = safe.
- Pharmacies: Boots, Watson's — everything OTC. Pharmacists speak English.
- Insurance: Buy BEFORE flying. Bumrungrad ICU = ~฿50,000/day cash-up-front. Tata AIG, ICICI Lombard, HDFC Ergo Explore: ₹50L medical + ₹2L trip ~₹800–1,500 for 17 days. Carry policy PDF on phone.
Weather + packing (late May / early June)
Highs 34–38°C · Lows 26–28°C · Humidity 75–90% · ~21 rainy days May, 18–20 June. Rain concentrated in 45-min late-afternoon thunderstorms (15:00–18:00) then clears. Mornings + evenings mostly dry.
- Linen/cotton shirts × 5–6 (you'll sweat through 2/day). Skip polyester.
- Cotton shorts × 2 + long-leg pants × 2 (temples need knees covered)
- One light collared shirt for temples + Rang Mahal dinners
- Closed-toe shoes (mandatory Grand Palace) + rubber sandals
- Compact umbrella OR 7-Eleven poncho ฿60
- Quick-dry microfiber towel
- DEET-30 (Watson's, BKK, ฿200)
- Sunscreen SPF 50 (Boots cheaper than India)
- Universal adapter (Thai sockets take Indian round-pin straight in, 220V)
- 10,000 mAh power bank minimum
- Ziploc for camera/passport during downpours
- 5,000–10,000 ฿ equivalent in USD/INR for Super Rich (kiosks at BTS Chit Lom, Pratunam, Asoke) — avoid airport currency counters, terrible rates
- Passport photocopy + e-Visa printout + hotel bookings — separate from originals
- 2 passport photos in case of visa extension
Don't pack: heavy jeans, jackets, formal shoes, cologne (sweat washes off in 20 min), hairdryer, excessive toiletries (Boots cheaper).
